Stone Valley Recreation Area

Stone Valley Recreation Area is a protected forest area in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, centered around Lake Perez. The grounds feature hiking paths, a boat launch, fishing spots, and picnic areas with grills for day visitors.

Penn State University received contracts to develop the land in 1940 and gained full ownership in 1954 for educational purposes. The area became tied to the university's forestry and environmental programs over the following decades.

The lake and forest paths serve as outdoor classrooms where visitors encounter interpretive signs about local plants and wildlife, connecting people directly to natural systems.

The area is open during daylight hours for hikers, anglers, and boaters, with visitors required to follow Pennsylvania fishing rules. The paths and picnic spots are freely accessible, and grills are available for cooking.

The lake was completely drained in 2008 due to dam regulation changes and refilled in 2014. Since returning, it became part of a state fish restocking effort.
