Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area, State recreation area in eastern Nebraska, United States
Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area is a protected area with approximately 20 lakes spread across 430 acres near the Platte River in eastern Nebraska. The recreation area provides camping facilities in two styles: improved RV sites with electrical connections and basic campsites for tent camping.
The area began when the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission transformed old gravel pits into public recreation lands with new lakes created from sand excavation. This conversion turned industrial sites into spaces for water activities and outdoor enjoyment.
Local families gather at the lakes throughout the year for swimming, fishing, and camping activities. The place serves as a social hub where neighbors meet and spend time outdoors together.
Arrive early during peak season to secure a good campsite, especially on weekends and holidays. Check which lake allows your preferred boating type before planning your visit, as rules vary by location.
Three designated lakes allow powerboats, while the rest stay reserved for non-motorized boats and electric trolling motors used for fishing. This setup lets both speedboat enthusiasts and quiet water seekers enjoy the same place.
