Blair Bridge, Road bridge at Blair, Nebraska and Harrison County, Iowa.
Blair Bridge is a steel road bridge that carries U.S. Route 30 across the Missouri River, linking Blair in Nebraska with Harrison County in Iowa. The dual-lane structure spans the river with a strong metal framework designed to handle regular traffic between the two states.
The original bridge was constructed in 1929 by the Kansas City Bridge Company and Wisconsin Bridge & Iron Company. It was replaced with a new structure in 1991 to meet modern traffic demands.
The structure stands along the former Lincoln Highway route, marking the development of early automobile transportation between Nebraska and Iowa.
This crossing serves as a main link between Omaha and Sioux City and remains open for through traffic under normal conditions. During Missouri River flooding, the bridge can become critical when other crossings are submerged.
The 1929 bridge was documented in the Historic American Engineering Record because of its metal truss design. This technical approach and private funding for the structure were uncommon features for bridges of that era.
