Neale Woods, Nature preserve in North Omaha, United States.
Neale Woods is a nature preserve with about 600 acres of forest and prairie landscapes along the Missouri River. The property features over 7 miles of marked trails that wind through different habitats and hilltop areas.
The land was settled in the mid-1800s and later partly opened to the public when Edith Neale made her donation in 1971. Since then it has been managed by Fontenelle Forest and operated as a nature preserve.
The preserve is named after Edith Neale, who donated the land to create this protected space for the community. Today visitors walk through the grounds to experience nature and learn about local plants and wildlife.
The trails are open daily and can be walked at your own pace through accessible main routes. Information signs along the paths help visitors orient themselves and learn about the landscape.
The grounds once hosted the Millard Observatory, one of the main public telescopes for the Omaha region. The observatory conducted stargazing there before ceasing operations.
