Harrison County Courthouse, County courthouse in Logan, Iowa
Harrison County Courthouse is a neoclassical courthouse in Logan featuring a central dome and three projecting pavilions on each side. Administrative offices occupy the first floor while courtrooms are located on the upper levels.
The building was constructed in 1911 and represents the fifth courthouse for Harrison County since the 1850s. It replaced earlier structures that had previously served the county in other locations.
Four murals by Frank Enders decorate the main stairway with scenes relating to the county's judicial past. These artworks give the building a human touch that goes beyond its role as a courthouse.
Visitors can explore the ground floor where administrative areas are accessible, while upper floors house the courtrooms. The neoclassical details are best viewed during daylight hours when natural light illuminates the interior.
The interior features a distinctive lozenge-shaped rotunda with patterned tile floors and metal staircases. Decorative column screens separate this central space from the surrounding hallways in an unusual layout.
