Roosevelt Hall, Greek Revival mansion in Skaneateles, United States.
Roosevelt Hall is a 25-room mansion on the shore of Skaneateles Lake with Greek Revival design. The interior features fine details such as white oak finishes and carefully crafted wall paneling throughout.
The mansion was built in 1839 by Richard Lawrence DeZeng as a prominent residence of that era. Furniture was made by inmates at Auburn Prison under supervision, reflecting the economic practices of the time.
The name comes from Franklin D. Roosevelt's frequent visits during his time as governor and campaign stops. The house became a gathering place for social events and shows how Skaneateles attracted wealthy families seeking a retreat by the water.
The building underwent substantial renovations in 1906 and gained a conservatory-style greenhouse with tropical plants. Access is available from the lakeshore or from the street, and its location near the center of Skaneateles makes it easy to find and visit.
The entire structure was originally built in New York City, then taken apart and transported to its current location. This unusual building method was a remarkable engineering feat for the 1830s and shows DeZeng's determination to create his dream home.
