Construction of the mansion took place between 1836 and 1843, establishing a landmark of prosperity in Auburn during that era. The late 19th century brought Classical Revival additions that enlarged and updated the property.
The property currently houses the Cayuga Museum of History and Art, displaying local history collections and Case Research Laboratory exhibits.

Inside the property is a rare window from the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company, a distinctive piece from the late 1800s. This decorative feature reveals the craftsmanship and wealth that surrounded the family living there.
