City Carpet, Sidewalk mosaic near Old City Hall in Boston, United States.
The sidewalk artwork combines ceramic, bronze, stone, brick, and concrete materials to form a 25-foot square mosaic with children's game patterns.
Created in 1983 by artist Lilli Ann Killen Rosenberg, the mosaic commemorates Boston Latin School, established in 1635 as the first public school in America.
The mosaic design incorporates traditional children's activities such as hopscotch, kite flying, rope jumping, hoop rolling, marble games, and tree swinging.
The Smithsonian Institution surveyed this outdoor sculpture in 1996 as part of their preservation program for public art installations.
Bronze inscriptions within the mosaic mention notable Boston Latin School graduates including Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
