Longboat Pass Bridge, Road bridge in Bradenton Beach, United States
Longboat Pass Bridge is a bascule bridge that connects Longboat Key to Bradenton Beach with multiple traffic lanes. The structure can raise its central section to allow boats to pass underneath.
The original structure built in 1926 was destroyed by a hurricane in 1932, leading to its reconstruction in 1957. Its remains were later reused for a separate bridge project.
The bridge connects two island communities that would otherwise remain separate from each other. For residents, it serves as a daily link that brings their two worlds together.
The bridge is free to use, but can become blocked during raising operations when boats need to pass. Visitors should expect occasional delays and plan accordingly when crossing.
Parts of the first bridge were not simply discarded but were reused for building another bridge to Snead Island. This shows how engineering and resources were efficiently used in the region.
