Fairhaven Town Hall, Town Hall in Fairhaven, Mass built in 1892
Fairhaven Town Hall is a Romanesque Revival government building completed in 1894 and located on Center Street. It features rounded arches, solid stone walls, and French Gothic details, with English oak paneling and brass fixtures inside, a clock tower with four faces, and stained glass windows throughout.
The building was given to the town in 1894 by Henry H. Rogers, a wealthy native of Fairhaven. Mark Twain, a close friend of Rogers, was a guest speaker at the dedication ceremony on February 22, 1894.
The building is named after its donor Henry H. Rogers and serves as a gathering place for town meetings, concerts, and theatrical performances. It remains central to how residents experience community life and cultural events in Fairhaven.
The building is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for visitors to see the architecture and historic interior. Free guided tours are offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during summer, and maps with historical information are available at the Fairhaven Visitors Center.
Inside are elaborate English oak panels and brass fixtures, while a restored auditorium on the second floor served dances, concerts, and theatrical shows. These spaces reveal how the building was designed to serve the community far beyond basic government functions.
