Bismarck Tower ), Observation tower in Burg Spreewald, Germany
Bismarck Tower is a 28-meter-high brick structure in Burg with two viewing platforms and an octagonal dome that defines the building at the top. Inside, a memorial hall features green Meissen majolica tiles and a glass-steel addition from 1999.
Construction started in 1915 during World War I and finished in 1917 using red clinker bricks. After 1945 it was renamed Tower of Youth, then restored to its original name in 1990.
The structure is named after Bismarck, though today it serves mainly as a local landmark drawing visitors who want to see the Spreewald landscape from above. The green Meissen majolica tiles inside show decorative craftsmanship that visitors notice while climbing.
Climbing requires ascending 138 steps through two stone spiral staircases, so some stamina helps. Opening times vary by season and are typically available April through October, with extended access during summer months.
The memorial hall is surrounded by 28 pillars framing a central space, creating a distinctive spatial arrangement inside. This symmetrical layout produces an interesting visual effect when exploring the room.
