Kreuzweg, Architectural ensemble with Stations of the Cross in Hammelburg, Germany

The Kreuzweg features 14 chapel stations arranged on a circular route around the Altstadt Monastery. The path extends roughly one kilometer and connects small structures decorated with carved stone reliefs.

The chapel route was built in 1733 and represents a milestone in religious architecture within the Hochstift Fulda territory. It shaped subsequent sacred landscapes and influenced the construction of similar sites in the region.

The chapel stations bear names of saints and display scenes depicting Christ's suffering. Visitors walk past carved reliefs that show moments from his final journey.

The route starts and ends at the monastery forecourt west of Hammelburg's town center. The path is well accessible and can be explored at a leisurely pace.

The chapel reliefs were created by Johann Jakob Faulstieg and Wenzeslaus Marx and depict detailed scenes from Christ's story. These works are notable for their artistic quality and intricate craftsmanship.
