The stone church stands on a hilltop with thick defensive walls, featuring a medieval tower that originally functioned as a protective keep.
The structure dates back to 982 when it belonged to St. Peter's Church in Aschaffenburg, later becoming a stronghold under the Würzburg diocese in 1008.
The building combines religious and defensive architectural elements, reflecting medieval German construction techniques through its Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance features.
Visitors can access the church grounds from Easter to Reformation Day between 10 AM and 6 PM, with services held twice monthly.
After a severe fire in 2012 destroyed much of the structure, the church underwent complete reconstruction and reopened in May 2019.
