Orionis

Orionis is a planetarium in a modern building with curved structures along the Scarpe river, housing a projection room and observatory domes. Visitors navigate various astronomical exhibits through a continuous path flowing from the entrance, past the gift shop, to the immersive experience areas.

Construction of Orionis began in late 2019 and led to its opening on May 13, 2023, establishing a new scientific center in northern France. The project reinforced the region's role in promoting science education and research.

The facility organizes astronomy conferences, meteorite exhibitions, and educational programs that help visitors explore space science and celestial observations.

The path through the exhibits is well organized and flows naturally from the entrance area to various experience stations. Visitors should allow time for the show presentations and the rooftop terrace overlooking the Scarpe, where good weather makes outdoor viewing pleasant.

The building uses geothermal energy, vegetated roofing, and Belgian bluestone pathways that support environmental conservation and local biodiversity. These sustainable features are visible in the design details and reflect a conscious approach to resource use throughout the visit.
