Darnley Mausoleum, Neoclassical mausoleum in Cobham, England
The Darnley Mausoleum stands on Williams Hill, featuring stone construction with Doric columns and a prominent pyramid roof overlooking the Kent Downs landscape.
The construction began in 1786 following the instructions of John Bligh, the 3rd Earl of Darnley, who sought an alternative burial site to Westminster Abbey.
The structure combines architectural elements of square, circle, and pyramid shapes, with interior features including rose marble columns and a coffered stone dome.
Visitors can access the mausoleum through designated paths in Cobham Woods, with the National Trust maintaining the property since its restoration in 2013.
The unconsecrated mausoleum contains a central chamber where the parabolic dome creates an acoustic effect that amplifies voices spoken beneath it.
