East Preston Street Burial Ground

East Preston Street Burial Ground contains historical graves surrounded by stone walls and features a watchtower at the junction of East Preston Street and Dalkeith Road.

The cemetery opened in 1820 as Newington Burial Ground and received its current name in 1848 following the establishment of another burial site in the vicinity.

The cemetery holds interments of notable figures including Forrest Alexander, founder of the Commercial Bank of Scotland, and several prominent religious leaders of Edinburgh.

The small stone watchtower on site was constructed to protect graves from robbers, while peripheral plots feature enclosed stone vaults secured with iron bars.
