Fiddes Castle is a four-story tower house in Aberdeenshire with a round spiral staircase and several turrets supported by corbels. The thick stone walls are pierced with defensive shot-holes to allow the building to be protected.
The building was constructed in 1592, as shown by an inscription on a window lintel. It later passed from the Arbuthnott family to the Thomsons of Arduthie.
This castle represents traditional Scottish defensive architecture and shows building techniques that were common in the medieval region. The stonework details and the practical arrangement of rooms reflect how people lived and protected their homes during that time.
