Vetch Field, Former football stadium in Swansea, United Kingdom
Vetch Field was a football stadium in Swansea that served as the home ground of Swansea City until its closure. The site had an unusual shape because private gardens bordered two corners, making the playing surface irregular.
The stadium opened in 1912 on a site where vetch crops had been grown previously and remained home to Swansea City until 2005. Between 1921 and 1988, it also hosted 18 international matches for the Welsh national team.
The center circle of the former pitch remains visible in the park today, and supporters scatter ashes of deceased fans connected to the club there. This practice transforms the space into a place of remembrance for the community.
The site is now a public park that is freely accessible and suitable for walking. The center circle on the grass serves as a reference point for visitors who want to remember the former stadium.
In the seventies and eighties, The Who and Stevie Wonder performed here in concerts, giving the site a musical dimension beyond football. The stadium was demolished in 2011 to make way for the current park.
