Beardmore Crane, Hammerhead crane in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland.

The Beardmore Crane stands at the former naval shipyard in Dalmuir and features a cantilever design that allowed lifting operations over large water areas. The structure includes a hammerhead arm that extended across much of the shipyard grounds to position heavy ship components.

The crane was built in 1903 at Beardmore's shipyard and operated for decades supporting military ship construction. During both World Wars, it played a central role in manufacturing naval vessels for the British fleet.

This structure represents the industrial identity of Clydeside, where shipbuilding shaped the communities of West Dunbartonshire. It stands as a physical reminder of the engineering skills that made this region known around the world.

The crane is visible from the walking paths around the former shipyard and easily accessible from Clydeside Community Park. The area offers good viewpoints where you can see the structure and understand its scale.

The crane's design influenced shipbuilding worldwide and set new standards for shipyard operations in the early 1900s. Many modern ports adopted the same concept for their lifting equipment.
