St Nicholas' Church

St Nicholas' Church is an Anglican place of worship built from sandstone with a distinctive central tower rising above the crossing and curved tracery windows throughout. The building accommodates around 700 worshippers and displays Gothic architectural features from the early 1900s.

The building was completed in 1910 as a memorial funded by the Harrison family, who commissioned Liverpool architect J F Doyle for the design. This project reflected the family's wish to honor their parents and marked a period of growth in the area.

The interior holds carved religious symbols and stained glass windows showing biblical scenes that catch the light as you walk through. These decorative elements tell stories that have meaning for worship and remembrance in the community.

The building sits on Newport Avenue near Wallasey Golf Club and is straightforward to reach. The spacious interior layout allows for comfortable visits, and regular services run throughout the week and weekends.

The building deliberately departs from standard liturgical direction, and visitors often miss the detailed stone carvings on the four-sided piers that run through the arcades. This craftsmanship reveals careful attention to the smaller architectural elements throughout the interior.
