Kindertransport – The Arrival, Bronze memorial sculpture at Liverpool Street station, United Kingdom.
Kindertransport – The Arrival is a bronze memorial at Liverpool Street Station depicting five Jewish refugee children standing with their suitcases on railway tracks. The figures are located at Hope Square near the station entrance and stand approximately 230 centimeters (7 feet 6 inches) tall.
Between 1938 and 1939, approximately 10,000 Jewish children arrived as refugees at Liverpool Street Station through the Kindertransport operation, escaping Nazi persecution. The memorial itself was created in 2006 to remember this rescue effort.
The memorial displays inscriptions showing where the children came from and includes a Talmudic quote about saving lives. These words help visitors connect with the personal stories behind this rescue operation.
The memorial is found at Hope Square near the main entrance and remains accessible throughout station opening hours. Be aware that the area around an active railway station can be quite busy, especially during peak times.
The sculptor Frank Meisler, who created this memorial, was himself a Kindertransport child who escaped the Nazis in 1939. His personal experience of this rescue made him the perfect artist to preserve this story in bronze.
