Joyland, Amusement park in Great Yarmouth, England
Joyland is a coastal amusement park in Great Yarmouth featuring rides arranged across multiple levels, including the distinctive Snails attraction and an underwater-themed ride called Neptune's Kingdom. The park blends colorful mechanical rides that have operated continuously since its founding.
The park opened in 1949 on the site of the former Anchor Gardens and introduced its signature rides called Snails and Tyrolean Tubs from the beginning. These rides have remained central features throughout its entire history.
The park preserves rides where multiple generations of British families have experienced the same attractions and moments together. This continuity creates a place where personal memories intertwine across different time periods.
The park is open daily from March through September and weekends in October, with certain rides requiring a minimum height of about 110 cm (3.5 feet). Arriving early helps you avoid longer waits, especially during summer months when visitor numbers peak.
The Tyrolean Tubs represents one of the last functioning Virginia Reel roller coaster designs in the world, existing here in miniature form. This historic ride showcases an engineering style that has largely disappeared elsewhere.
