Cleatham Hall, Grade II listed building in Manton, England

Cleatham Hall is a Classical Revival mansion built from limestone rubble and brick with a balanced five-bay front elevation. The property sits within expansive grounds that include formal gardens and period outbuildings.

The house was designed and built in 1855 by architect J M Hooker from Tunbridge Wells. The estate later passed to the Maw family who maintained it through subsequent decades.

The interior maintains its original features, including a geometrical staircase with stone steps, cast-iron balusters, wall niches, and decorated plaster cornices from 1889.

The estate spreads across substantial grounds with paths linking different areas and zones. Wear suitable footwear when exploring the gardens and outdoor spaces at leisure.

A resident of the house was Wing Commander Roger Maw, who took part in a daring wartime escape from a German prisoner of war camp. This connection links the property to a remarkable moment in military history.
