Henry VII Experience at Micklegate Bar, Historical museum in Micklegate Bar, York, England
The Henry VII Experience was a museum housed in the southern gatehouse of York's city walls and presented exhibitions about the Tudor era. Interactive displays and multimedia presentations conveyed information about this historical period.
The museum evolved from the earlier Micklegate Bar Museum and focused on King Henry VII, who came to power after the Battle of Bosworth. This shift happened in 2014 and marked a new emphasis on the Tudor dynasty.
The exhibits presented Tudor-era objects and armor displayed in a way visitors could easily understand and explore. People could see how everyday life worked during that time and what tools and clothes were actually used.
The building was located near York Station and could be reached easily on foot. Opening times changed between seasons, with longer hours in summer and shorter hours in winter.
The content was developed by Terry Deary, author of the Horrible Histories book series, which presents history in an entertaining way for young readers. This approach made the museum particularly engaging for children and families.
