Споменик природе Бигрена акумулација код манастира Тумане, Natural monument near Tumane Monastery, Serbia
Bigrena Accumulation is a natural monument featuring travertine terraces that cascade down multiple levels with waterfalls reaching about 14 meters in height. The formations span approximately 8.5 hectares and create an intricate system of water channels and rock surfaces.
The site gained significance through its connection with Tumane Monastery, a 14th-century religious foundation, and the hermitage of Saint Zosimus the Sinaite. This spiritual presence has shaped and preserved the location across the centuries.
The spring near the monument serves as a traditional place where locals leave offerings for departed loved ones, a practice rooted in Serbian folk tradition. Visitors can observe how this site continues to hold spiritual meaning in the daily lives of the community.
Access to the monument runs along a hiking path through the forest that follows Kamenica stream, located about one kilometer from the monastery. Wear proper footwear as the trail can become slippery in wet conditions.
A hermit cave is carved directly into the travertine formations, offering direct entry into the rock structures themselves. Ancient beech and oak forests surround this area, their canopy covering the entire site.
