Château de Trigance

Château de Trigance is a medieval fortress perched on a rocky outcrop above the village that commands views over the Verdon Valley. The stone structure with its towers and reinforced walls extends along the ridge and offers panoramic views of the surrounding gorge from multiple vantage points.

The castle was built in medieval times as a defensive stronghold against raids and played an important role in protecting the region for centuries. In the 20th century it was converted into a hotel, which preserved the structure but fundamentally changed its purpose.

The name Trigance derives from a local term meaning shelter, reflecting how this place long served as a protective refuge for inhabitants. Visitors can sense this defensive purpose in the fortified design and elevated position of the structure.

The site sits atop a hilltop and requires a short walk from the village, making sturdy footwear and moderate fitness advisable. Access is available during opening hours, and the climb reveals stepped views of the surrounding landscape as you approach.

Breakfast is served on a crenellated terrace where guests watch morning light play across the Gorges du Verdon while mist gradually lifts from the canyon below. This spot is rare for starting a day in one of the region's most dramatic landscapes.
