Museum of crystals in Chamonix
Museum of Crystals in Chamonix is a small museum housing over 1900 mineral pieces from around the world. The displays feature crystals from the Alps and five continents, ranging from French mines to sources in Pakistan and Congo.
The museum reopened in 2021 after renovations with a newly redesigned collection. This update made the displays more accessible and tells the story of mineral discovery and the natural world of crystals.
The museum reflects the region's long tradition of mineral hunting in the mountains. Visitors can observe displays that show how local people have searched for and valued these stones as part of their connection to the Alps.
The museum is located near Chamonix center with parking nearby and is accessible for wheelchairs. A typical visit lasts about an hour and a half, with opening hours mainly in the afternoons and earlier in summer months.
A special section called The Treasure displays gold, silver, copper, and gemstones in both raw and polished forms. This collection emphasizes the variety and brilliance of minerals when presented in different states.
