Télécabine de Planpraz, Aerial gondola in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France
The Télécabine de Planpraz is a gondola lift that carries visitors from Chamonix at 1090 meters to Planpraz station at 1979 meters in shared cabins. The journey takes visitors through changing mountain views as the elevation increases, moving from the valley floor into the higher alpine zone.
The lift first opened in 1928 as a way to reach higher elevations from the valley. Over the years, the system has been updated and rebuilt to meet modern safety standards while preserving some of its original infrastructure.
The gondola serves as a gateway to numerous mountain activities, connecting hikers to the Grand Balcon Sud trail and providing winter access to the Brevent ski area.
The lift operates during summer months and winter seasons, with varying schedules depending on weather and visitor demand. Plan your trip in stages if you want to explore multiple paths, as several routes start from the upper station.
Midway up the mountain, a restaurant called La Bergerie provides a place to rest and take in views. From this stopping point, several long hiking routes branch out toward alpine lakes, making it a natural place to pause during exploration.
