Cascade du Dard, Mountain waterfall in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France
Cascade du Dard is a 20-meter waterfall in the forest below Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix. The water flows over smooth rocks and is crossed by several wooden bridges at different points, offering good views of the rushing water.
The water stream originates from Pélerins glacier at 2300 meters elevation, where glacial melt has shaped this waterfall over many decades. Extreme weather events and glacier movements have altered the surroundings multiple times.
The name reflects the swift water flow that becomes apparent when visiting the spot. The setting is regularly used by hikers who appreciate the quiet forest paths and the sound of falling water.
The path starts at Grepon car park in Chamonix and runs about 800 meters along Chemin la Fabrique de Sonnettes through the forest. The climb is gentle with about 30 meters of elevation gain, making it manageable for most walkers.
A small mountain restaurant near the waterfall opens during summer months and serves meals and drinks from its terrace. The terrace offers a front-row view of the cascade as water drops from above.
