Le Brévent, Mountain summit and sports venue at 2,525 meters in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France

Le Brévent is a 2,525-metre summit in the Aiguilles Rouges range above Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, facing the Mont-Blanc massif. A cable car from Chamonix reaches Planpraz, then a 60-place téléphérique continues to the top. The south-facing ski area has a long black run down to the valley.

Le Brévent has been reached by the Planpraz gondola and the Brévent cable car since 1930, opening the 2,525-metre summit above Chamonix to visitors. On 14 April 1941 Félix Germain made the first ski descent of the mountain via the col du Brévent. A modern gondola dating from 2008 now leaves from Chamonix, and a 60-place cable car continues to the top of the ski area.

The summit is a launch point for wingsuit flyers, who jump from the cliff above the Chamonix valley. Skiers use the south-facing slopes, where Félix Germain made the first ski descent via the col du Brévent on 14 April 1941. Hikers pass through on the GR 5 and the Tour du Mont Blanc.

The summit is accessible via multiple hiking paths or cable car, offering options for different fitness levels. Bring weather-appropriate clothing as conditions at elevation change quickly, and allow time for acclimatization.

The first ski descent of Le Brévent, via the col du Brévent, was made on 14 April 1941 by Félix Germain. The western half of the mountain, including the lac du Brévent below the summit to the south-west, lies within the Réserve naturelle nationale des Aiguilles-Rouges.
