Pointe Noire de Pormenaz

Pointe Noire de Pormenaz, Alpine summit in Servoz and Passy, France.

Pointe Noire de Pormenaz is an Alpine summit reaching 2323 meters that offers wide views across the surrounding mountain ranges. From this vantage point, walkers see the massif of Mont Blanc, the Fiz range, and the Aravis mountains stretched across the horizon.

The first documented climbs of this summit took place in the late 19th century. These early ascents were part of the growing mountaineering movement that was exploring the French Alps during that era.

The mountain sits within the Passy Nature Reserve, where hikers and climbers regularly traverse its steep slopes. The name references the dark rock coloring that gives the peak its distinctive appearance among lighter neighboring summits.

The ascent from Plaine Joux takes approximately seven hours via marked trails. Good hiking boots and regular rest stops are wise, since the elevation gain is substantial and the terrain becomes steeper as you climb higher.

The nearby Lac de Pormenaz mirrors the dark rock walls of the peak during calm weather, creating a quiet, reflective landscape. This small mountain lake lies to the northeast of the summit and attracts visitors seeking peaceful moments in the Alpine setting.
