Pointe de Sales, Mountain summit in Haut Giffre, France.
Pointe de Sales is a mountain summit in the Haut Giffre region rising to 2391 meters above sea level. The route climbs through rocky terrain with limestone outcrops, following well-established paths that connect the Sales refuge to the peak.
The Sales refuge was established in 1981, making the area more accessible to hikers and transforming how people visited the peak. This development marked a shift from isolated mountaineering to more regular public access to the summit.
The mountain serves as a central point for alpine activities, where hikers and nature observers gather to experience the regional mountain traditions.
The hike typically takes about three and a half hours with steady elevation gain on a moderate route. Proper hiking boots and weather-appropriate gear are essential, as mountain conditions can change quickly throughout the day.
From the summit, hikers can see two notable waterfalls directly visible from the peak: the Cascade de la Pleureuse and Cascade de la Sauffaz. These falls cascade within the Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval natural reserve and create a striking visual perspective from above.
