Via Ferrata des Evettes, Via ferrata route in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France
Via Ferrata des Evettes is a climbing route in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc with fixed iron paths and secured sections along a mountain face. The path crosses rock walls with multiple climbing sections featuring steel cables, metal steps, and a walkable suspension bridge.
The route was developed by Compagnie du Mont-Blanc with support from Compagnie des Guides to teach mountain techniques to beginners. It was created to introduce people without extensive experience into alpine climbing.
The route demonstrates how modern safety equipment makes mountain climbing accessible to ordinary visitors. It combines traditional climbing methods with fixed cables and metal steps, allowing people to safely navigate steep rock faces.
Visitors need climbing experience and must wear safety gear including harness, helmet, and carabiners. The site is easily reached from the base station of the Flégère cable car, and the entire tour takes about four hours.
The route has a special section called Route Corda for less experienced climbers that runs alongside the more challenging via ferrata. This allows visitors of different abilities to tackle the course together and enjoy the same mountain views.
