Aiguille de l'M, Mountain summit in Haute-Savoie, France

The Aiguille de l'M is the northernmost summit of the Aiguilles de Chamonix, rising to 2,844 m in the Mont-Blanc massif. It has twin tops: the north-east point at 2,844 m and the south-west Pointe Albert at 2,816 m, separated by the Brèche de l'M at 2,774 m. Its dark grey rock pinnacles stand above a band of reddish-brown rock and a broad pale scree slope.

The north-northeast ridge was first climbed in full on 24 August 1948 by N. Kristoffovitch, Morel and Peyrote with guide André Contamine; Gaston Rébuffat ranked it no. 18 among the 100 finest routes of the Mont-Blanc massif. The Couzy route (Jean Couzy and M. Prost, 25 July 1952) and the Menegaux route (Jean-Claude and Sylvain Menegaux with J. Poullain, August 1948) on the north-west face together hold no. 46. The south-west twin summit is named Pointe Albert after Albert I, King of the Belgians.

The name comes from the peak's silhouette as seen from the Chamonix valley, which it overlooks and which resembles the letter M. Its twin summits are the north-east point and the Pointe Albert, named after Albert I, King of the Belgians. The north-north-east ridge, first climbed in full on 24 August 1948 by N. Kristoffovitch, Morel and Peyrote with guide André Contamine, is number 18 among Gaston Rébuffat's 100 finest climbs of the Mont Blanc massif.

This peak is accessible from June through September when weather conditions are most favorable for climbing. Chamonix serves as the main base with equipment rental shops and mountain refuges positioned near the approach routes.
