Poole Park Railway, Rideable miniature railway in Poole Park, Dorset, England
Poole Park Railway is a miniature railway that runs on a 640-meter track circling a lake in the park. The train features green carriages with yellow trim and can carry up to 32 passengers on each journey.
This railway opened in 1949 with a narrow gauge of 10.25 inches and originally operated a steam locomotive called Vanguard. The locomotive ran until 1965, after which the operation shifted to different power sources.
The railway maintains connections to local heritage through its design elements that reference the Southern Railway company that operated in the region from 1923 to 1947.
The railway runs year-round but may close during bad weather. The carriages are wheelchair accessible and designed so all visitors can enjoy the ride.
Community campaigners saved this railway from closure in 2017 through dedicated action. The Friends of Poole Park organization now holds a 30-year operating agreement to keep the trains running.
