Everton Stadium, Football stadium in Vauxhall, Liverpool, England
Everton Stadium is a football ground built on Bramley-Moore Dock, on the northern bank of the River Mersey in Liverpool. The ground has a roof covering nearly all of the seating bowl, which holds around 52,800 spectators.
Bramley-Moore Dock opened in the mid-19th century and spent decades as part of Liverpool's working port, handling cargo from around the world. Trade eventually declined and the dock fell into disuse, sitting largely empty until it was chosen as the site for the new stadium in the early 21st century.
The stadium sits on the northern waterfront, in a part of Liverpool that locals have long associated with the working docks rather than sport. Walking around the ground, visitors can spot architectural details that echo the old dock walls and warehouse shapes once common along this stretch of the river.
The ground sits on the northern waterfront, a short distance from the city center, and is reachable by public transport. On match days it is worth arriving early, as the surrounding streets and walkways along the river can get very busy.
The dock basin was not filled in during construction, so the original water feature was kept and incorporated into the area around the ground. Visitors walking along the riverside before a game can still see the old dock water sitting between the stadium walls and the river.
