DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds City Centre, Modern hotel in Granary Wharf, Leeds, England
DoubleTree by Hilton Leeds City Centre is a hotel tower in Granary Wharf, a canal-side district in the centre of Leeds, rising to 44 meters (144 feet) above the River Aire. The building was designed by the architectural firm Allies and Morrison and has 14 floors with a largely glass facade.
The hotel opened in 2007 as part of a broader redevelopment of Granary Wharf, which had long served as an industrial storage and canal freight area. The tower was one of the first new buildings to signal a shift in the character of this part of the city.
Granary Wharf sits along the canal just below street level, and the hotel towers above this lower zone where old brick arches now house cafes and small shops. The contrast between the old arches and the glass tower above them is something visitors notice as soon as they arrive.
The hotel stands directly next to Leeds City Centre station, so it can be reached on foot in a couple of minutes from the platforms. The building is fully accessible for visitors with reduced mobility.
Every guest receives a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie at check-in, a tradition that runs across all DoubleTree properties worldwide. The recipe for this cookie was kept secret for years and was only made public by the brand in 2020.
