Queens Hotel, Art Deco hotel in City Square, Leeds, England
The Queens Hotel is an Art Deco building with eight floors located on City Square next to the railway station. The structure features a white Portland stone facade, holds approximately 232 rooms and three suites, and connects to the station through a private entrance.
The building was constructed in 1937 on the site of a 19th-century railway hotel that had to be demolished to make way for it. This replacement represented part of a broader modernization effort around the station area.
The hotel served as a gathering place for distinguished visitors arriving through the railway station and became part of the city's social landscape. Its role in welcoming travelers shaped how people viewed hospitality and style in Leeds.
The hotel is directly accessible from the station concourse, making it convenient for arriving travelers without needing to step outside. This location means guests can easily coordinate their arrival with check-in procedures.
The construction was a remarkable engineering achievement that required two million bricks and substantial quantities of Portland stone to complete. The scale and craftsmanship of this undertaking reveal how much effort went into every aspect of the building.
