124 Horseferry Road, Grade II listed building in Westminster, England
This Grade II listed building on Horseferry Road consists of two L-shaped four-story office wings connected by a curved section that follows the plot's boundary. The structure was designed with high-tech architectural features and sits prominently in Westminster's government and media district.
The building replaced a 1970s post office structure and was constructed by the Richard Rogers Partnership between 1990 and 1994, opening in summer 1994. This project marked a shift toward contemporary architecture in the Westminster area.
The building housed a television studio in its basement measuring 2,000 square feet, which produced various programs including T4 and The Jonathan Dimbleby Programme.
The building features exterior light mesh screens that reduce solar heat gain while creating a distinctive visual effect on the facade. Automatic doors, ramps, and induction loops throughout ensure accessible entry and movement for all visitors.
The facade blends pewter-grey aluminum cladding with reddish-brown steelwork, creating a striking visual contrast that catches the light differently throughout the day. External wall-climbing lifts provide an unconventional way to access upper floors and serve as a distinctive design feature.
