Well Hung Lover, Street art mural in Bristol, England
Well Hung Lover is a wall painting by Banksy on Frogmore Street in Bristol showing a naked man clinging to a window ledge. A clothed man appears at a neighboring window beside a woman in undergarments, while the man outside hangs and tries to avoid being seen.
Banksy created the work in 2006 and it became the first officially approved street art piece in the United Kingdom following a decision by Bristol City Council. Paint ball attacks in 2009 left lasting marks, as only part of the damage could be removed.
The artwork shows a man caught between two windows in a compromising situation, while pedestrians along Park Street often pause to discuss the humorous scene. Visitors frequently notice the ironic placement on a health clinic, which adds an extra layer of meaning to the theme portrayed.
The painting is located on Frogmore Street and is best viewed from Park Street bridge, which sits roughly five meters above street level. The viewing angle from the bridge allows you to take in the full composition and details of the three figures.
Only three of the seven blue paint splatters could be removed after the 2009 attack, as complete cleaning would have damaged the original work. The remaining stains are now part of the painting's story and remind visitors of the controversies surrounding street art in Bristol.
