Biggin Wood, Nature reserve in Upper Norwood, United Kingdom
Biggin Wood is a nature reserve in the London Borough of Croydon featuring established oak woodland with several footpaths running through it. The reserve protects a section of ancient forest with dense tree coverage and a variety of woodland habitats for visitors to explore on foot.
The woodland was first documented in 1493 in Archbishop Morton's land records, where it was referred to as 'Biggins Farm' and 'Biggenswood'. This early mention shows the area has been recognized as forested land for over 500 years.
The London Wildlife Trust manages this section of the Great North Wood in partnership with Croydon Council and local community groups.
Visitors can follow established footpaths throughout the woodland and find public facilities including accessible toilets with Radar key access. The reserve is well-organized for walking and exploring on foot, with clear routes through the trees.
A visible World War II bomb crater remains within the woodland, a reminder of the air raids that affected the area. Remnants of an air raid shelter from that period are also still present on the site.
