Hawk Conservancy Trust

Hawk Conservancy Trust, Bird conservation center in Test Valley, England

Hawk Conservancy Trust is a wildlife facility on a wooded 22-acre site in Hampshire where around 130 birds of prey live. The birds occupy different areas ranging from natural-looking enclosures to viewing zones where visitors can observe them up close.

The site started as Weyhill Zoo in the 1950s and was transformed in 1980 by Reg and Hilary Smith into its current form. This change shifted the focus toward protecting and rescuing birds of prey.

The name reflects its focus on birds of prey and their protection, which shapes how the site operates daily. Visitors encounter displays and information about the care and release of injured raptors throughout their visit.

The site opens daily from 9 AM to 5:30 PM with visitors able to watch flying displays and have direct encounters with owls. It helps to schedule time for the flight shows and explore the grounds at a relaxed pace.

Researchers here studied the kicking abilities of secretarybirds to better understand extinct bird species. These investigations also led to the development of robotic systems inspired by how the birds move.
