Duchal Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Kilmacolm, Scotland

The castle remains stand at the meeting point of Blacketty and Green Waters, featuring walls up to 5 meters high and 2.5 meters thick.

The Lyle family constructed the fortress in the 13th century, and it endured a notable siege by King James IV in 1489 using artillery.

The structure represents Scottish defensive architecture with its courtyard layout, divided into inner and outer baileys with evident gun loops in walls.

The castle ruins maintain visible northern and eastern sections of the original walls, allowing visitors to examine medieval construction techniques.

Marion Boyd, King James IV's mistress, lived at the castle and gave birth to their son Alexander Stewart there in 1497.
