Sicilian Avenue, Pedestrian shopping street in Bloomsbury, London.
Sicilian Avenue is a pedestrian shopping street running diagonally between Southampton Row and Bloomsbury Way with Neo-Classical entrances featuring Ionic columns and decorative balustrades. The structures extend across five floors with retail units at street level and offices above.
The avenue was constructed between 1906 and 1910 by architect Robert Worley with original Italian marble cladding. This material was replaced during the 1920s.
The avenue displays elegant red brick facades with white terracotta ornaments that reflect early 20th-century design practices. Visitors can observe the handcrafted details on building exteriors that capture the character of the Edwardian period.
The location is within walking distance of the British Museum and easy to reach from surrounding areas. The pedestrian zone has clear signage and remains accessible during standard shopping hours.
Three Grade II listed lamp posts light this diagonal shopping street with a particular glow. These historic fixtures have served as filming locations for major film productions.
