Kitley Show Cave, Show cave near Yealmpton, Devon, England
Kitley Show Cave is a limestone show cave near Yealmpton in Devon, England. It sits just beside the River Yealm within a small quarry and has two entrances that connect to the same underground chamber.
The cave was uncovered around 1834 when quarrying work broke through to the entrance. It was open to the public between 1971 and 2000, then closed for safety and conservation reasons.
The cave is currently closed to the public and cannot be visited inside. The surrounding trail along the Yealm estuary is walkable and passes close to the cave entrance.
Bones of mammoths, rhinoceroses, and other ice age animals were found inside, showing the area was home to large prehistoric creatures around 120,000 years ago. Parts of the cave flood regularly because the water level inside follows the rise and fall of the nearby River Yealm.
