Town Hall, Hamilton Road, Motherwell

Town Hall on Hamilton Road in Motherwell is a two-story building with a symmetrical front facade featuring a clock tower and pilasters. The main floor contained a double-height public hall with over one thousand seats for gatherings.

The building was completed in 1887 by architect John Bennie Wilson and served as headquarters for the local council. In 1970 the town hall ceased its original government function and was later converted to other uses.

The building served as a gathering place where the community attended concerts and civic events together. This role as a social meeting point shaped how people understood Motherwell as an active town.

The building is no longer operating in its original function and is not currently accessible as a public facility. Visitors can view the exterior facade from Hamilton Road to see the historic architecture from the street.

The building hosted a concert by the legendary rock musician T. Rex in 1970, one of the most memorable musical events in Motherwell's history. This performance remains a highlight that locals remember when thinking back on the town's cultural moments.
