Calderstones, Neolithic burial site in Allerton, England
The Calderstones consist of six sandstone megaliths positioned within a dedicated building in Calderstones Park, displaying ancient carvings and weathering patterns.
Dating back approximately 4,000 years, these stones formed part of a passage tomb similar to Bryn Celli Ddu on Anglesey, remaining active for 800 years.
The carved symbols on the stones connect to broader megalithic traditions found around the Irish Sea, including patterns from Scotland, Ireland, and North Wales.
The stones are now housed in a protected environment within The Reader organization's building, allowing visitors to examine the prehistoric markings throughout the year.
Natural grooves in the stones led Victorian antiquarians to create tales linking them to Druid ceremonies, despite their actual Neolithic origins.
