Ырыскелды кажы, Modern mosque in Astana, Kazakhstan
Ырыскелды кажы is a modern mosque in Astana featuring triangular walls connected by a dome measuring 26 meters across. A 43.5-meter minaret shaped like a sacred pen rises from the building's northern side.
The building opened in 2018 and bears the name of Ryskeldi Dzhaksybekov, a significant figure in Kazakhstan's cultural history. It represents a phase of religious and architectural modernization in the capital.
The interior follows Sufi traditions with restrained decoration, displaying only the 99 names of Allah in white and cream tones circling the dome. This design creates a space focused on contemplation, drawing attention to what matters most.
The prayer space accommodates around 750 regular visitors and can hold over 1,000 people when needed. Orientation inside is straightforward due to the simple layout and minimal interior elements.
The roof is covered with solar panels that generate far more energy than the building needs. The surplus is fed into the city's power grid, supporting local energy supply.
