Rocher Gassendi stands at 1073 meters elevation and features rocky cliffs with views of the Bès Valley and surrounding mountains.

In 1636, astronomer Pierre Gassendi used this rock formation for six months as a secret observatory for his celestial studies.

The site forms an integral part of the hiking trail network in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, marking the natural heritage of the region.

The hiking trail from La Robine-sur-Galabre extends 4 kilometers with an elevation gain of 330 meters and requires two and a half hours to complete.

The viewpoint allows observation of the natural velodrome formed by the Bès River, visible from the summit of Collet.
