Belvédère sur Charleville
The Belvédère sur Charleville is a stone and metal tower built in 1848 that stands on Mont Olympe hill near the city center. From the top, visitors can see the city of Charleville-Mézières, the Meuse river that flows nearby, and the surrounding hills and fields in all directions.
The tower was built in 1848 by Monsieur Lolot, an iron master who wanted to create a place offering beautiful views over the city and surrounding nature. The region later became part of Charleville-Mézières after several small settlements merged together.
The tower is a modest structure of stone and metal that blends naturally into the surrounding landscape. Visitors come here to take photographs, enjoy the view, and spend quiet moments appreciating the area from a higher vantage point.
The climb to the tower is easy and follows a well-maintained path starting from the nearby Mont Olympe park without steep sections. Wear comfortable shoes and visit early in the morning or late afternoon for good light and quieter conditions.
The nearby Mont Olympe park contains a statue of poet Arthur Rimbaud, a major literary figure from the region. This adds a cultural dimension to a visit, connecting the viewpoint to the artistic heritage of the area.
